Introducing the WAV Trigger Pro

The original WAV Trigger and Tsunami have been out for a number of years now, and there’s been plenty of opportunity to hear feedback from users. A consistent request that has come through loud and clear is for a smaller footprint. Many of you embed one or the other player into your own products, making size an important constraint.

I’ve been wanting to introduce a new generation of player based on the STM32H750 for some time, but the recent global electronics component supply issues have until now prevented doing so. Building on the success of the original WAV Trigger, the new WAV Trigger Pro is aimed at the power user, packing more capability into far less space, but also requiring some soldering/assembly to use.

In addition to smaller size (1.75” by 1.50”), a main feature of the WAV Trigger Pro is support for USB MIDI, as either a class-compliant USB MIDI Device, or, as a USB MIDI Host providing up to 500mA to your USB MIDI Keyboard or Controller and no computer required.

The WAV Trigger Pro allows you to freely mix mono and stereo .wav files with full control of volume and panning. In addition, sample rate offset, otherwise known as pitch, can now be assigned on a per note/voice basis, making it possible to spread a single track across a range of MIDI notes. A MIDI Note can now trigger up to 8 individual actions, with the option of specifying MIDI velocity ranges to each action, making it possible to create velocity layers. Eight digital input triggers are mapped to MIDI note numbers, allowing a single trigger to perform multiple functions (e.g. stopping one or more tracks AND starting others.)

All of these new features are programmed via presets, which are spreadsheet .csv files placed on the microSD card and can be recalled via MIDI or assigned to trigger inputs.
